2 Miles (2%) Earned on All Purchases
You will earn two (2) miles for each one dollar ($1.00) of all Net Purchases made using your Card.
This is pretty simple. It doesn’t matter if you are buying a plane ticket or paying your electricity bill; you’ll earn 2 miles for every dollar you spend on the card. This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard a fantastic option for daily purchases. If you have other cards earning 3-6% on certain categories, use them where appropriate and use this card for everything else.
There is no limit to the amount of points you can earn, so you never have to worry about maxing out your benefits.
Get a 10% Bonus After Miles are Redeemed for Travel
You will earn an additional 10% in miles for every “pay for travel” (Airlines, Travel Agencies & Tour Operators, Hotels, Motels & Resorts, Cruise Lines, Passenger Railways and Car Rental Agencies) redemption you make. For example, if you redeem 25,000 miles for travel, we will deposit 2,500 miles in your Rewards bank.
If you redeem your rewards for travel then you will get a 10% bonus to get you started in saving miles for your next redemption. This makes your miles worth 11.11% more.
Why 11.11% and not 10%? Let’s look at an example. If you redeem 10,000 miles for $100 of travel, you’ll get a 1,000 mile bonus worth $10. Then if you redeem those 1,000 miles, you’ll get 100 miles worth $1. Each redemption gives you another 10% back, which makes the benefit 1.11% better than it seems.
As long as you are redeeming your points for travel then you’ll effectively earn 2.22% back on every purchase. That’s one of the highest rates on the rewards credit card market today.
Up to 40,000 Miles ($444.44) Sign-Up Bonus
40,000 bonus miles are earned if you use your new Credit Card Account for $1,000 in Net Purchases within ninety (90) days of your Credit Card Account being opened.
If you spend at least $3,000 on the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard in the first 90 days of card ownership, you will be rewarded with a 40,000 mile sign-up bonus. This is simply fantastic for a card with a modest annual fee ($89) that is waived for the first year.
This is all or nothing, so if you do apply for this card you have to spend $3,000 in your first three months. If you aren’t planning to spend that much on this card then there’s a good chance this isn’t the right card for you anyway.
Redemption – Statement Credit
You can use your miles to: (a) “pay for travel” (Airlines, Travel Agencies & Tour Operators, Hotels, Motels & Resorts, Cruise Lines, Passenger Railways and Car Rental Agencies) purchases made within the last 90 days as a statement credit, (b) redeem for cash back as a statement credit, (c) redeem for gift cards or (d) redeem for merchandise.
If you redeem your miles as a statement credit on your eligible Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard account, the credit will be posted to your account within five to seven (5-7) business days. Statement credits reduce your account balance but cannot be applied toward any minimum payment and are otherwise subject to the terms and conditions applicable to your Barclaycard Arrival MasterCard account.
One of the best things about the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard is the fact that you can redeem your miles with a simple statement credit for any purchase. The benefits to this type of redemption are truly outstanding, including the following:
- No blackout dates
- Fly on any airline or stay in any hotel you want
- Ability to shop for the best deal on travel websites or with travel agencies
- Ability to use coupons or other discounts
- And much more
When you are locked into a rewards network you can be limited by blackout dates, artificially high prices, and a limited number of companies to purchase from. This card has none of those problems. Redemption is a huge plus for this card.
Finally, while this is a “travel card” you can use your rewards for any non-travel purchase at a rate of 2 miles for 1 cent. This isn’t recommended since the miles lose 50% of their value and you forgo the 10% bonus, but it does provide the options to use your miles for groceries or other credit card expenses.
Free TripIt Pro Subscription ($49 annual value)
Barclaycard will maintain a complimentary TripIt Pro subscription for your account, as long as your account remains open and in good standing. You will receive one (1) subscription per account.
This is not something you see every day with rewards credit cards. TripIt is a free web and mobile app that helps you keep all your travel plans organized and gives you statistics about how many miles you’ve traveled and cities you’ve visited.
The Pro version includes all the features of the free version and can send you flight alerts, help you find a better seat on a plane, and even monitors the fares of flights you’ve purchased to see if the price drops and you can save money. If the price drops by $200 and the airline only charges a $150 change fee, you can change to the new price and effectively get a $50 refund.
I don’t know if the service is worth $49 a year, but since it is free with the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard it’s a nice benefit.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
Foreign Transaction Fee: 0% of each transaction in U.S. dollars.
Any good travel card should have a “no foreign transaction fees” policy, and this card is no exception. This gives you peace of mind knowing you can travel abroad and not worry about using your credit card.
Free FICO Score
All Barclaycards offer cardholders their FICO score free in their online account. You can view more about how to access the free FICO score here.
Annual Fee – $89 (waived the first year)
No one likes paying an annual fee, but $89 is actually a great deal for this card. When you consider the sign-up bonus is worth at least $400, it will actually take six years before the annual fees outweigh the sign-up bonus.
If you end up not liking the card you can cancel it before the first year is up, never pay the $89 annual fee, and keep the $400 sign-up bonus. Not a bad deal.
Reward Boost Verdict – Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard
The Barclaycard Arrival World MasterCard is simply one of the best travel cards on the market. In fact, even if you don’t travel frequently it is still a great card. Unlimited double miles, fantastic redemption options, and a massive sign-up bonus make this a deal that’s hard to pass up.
If you aren’t earning at least 2% back on all your purchases with the cards you have today, the Barclaycard Arrival World MasterCard could be the card for you.
